What if the police and prosecution were told to ‘believe all victims of false allegations’?

I have written previously about why language matters. Put simply, language matters because it is the words or phrases that we use that shapes and reflects how we think, feel and act as individuals in response to social and/or legal issues such as alleged sexual offences or alleged false allegations, which is the subject of this article. With this in mind, in evaluating the intended provocation in the title, ‘What the police and prosecution were told to believe all victims of false allegations?’, it is crucial that the key terms are clearly defined at the start of any analysis. Protecting consumers against fake online reviews: Are good intentions enough?

UK consumers await the enactment of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer Bill (DMCC Bill), currently going through Parliament. It is due to come into force in mid-2024. Part 4 deals with Consumer Rights and Disputes, with Chapter 1 dealing with protection from unfair trading.  This chapter will revoke the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 (S.I. 2008/1277) which implemented the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive 2005/29/EC. Unfair commercial practices will now be dealt with under the new Act. (more…)
